A check valve prevents flow in the opposite direction.

The vent prevents the draining water from reating a vacuum in the pipes which would othewise suck the water out of the traps.
Traps are the s shaped pipe that keep a water seal and prevent the odors from the sewer from entering the home. Odors will tavel out of the vent pipe instead as well

p trap is a seal to keep sewer gas from coming into house,,that’s the simple answer

I don’t understand why you’d use a nut that transitions upwards in diameter from that of the tube… why not use a normal nut?

ive got a bad clog in one of my bathrooms. tried everything. dont wanna call a plumber. just want to see how the pipes n stuff are arranged n go from there

Is it mainly for clean out, I have run into some problems with floor heights for proper drainage, so if I can just elimate the trap it will help me.
