My toilet “runs”, needs a new flapper. That’s not the problem. The problem is, about a week ago, after the toilet was “running” for a few minutes (on the second floor), water started pouring through the ceiling under the toilet. I moved a trash can, shut off the water to the toilet, the water stopped coming through the ceiling…then I turned the water back on, and I haven’t been able to reproduce the problem, or figure out what the heck went wrong. Very weird.

Does the whole ceiling need to come down to put up a new one (this is what he said needed to be done but this guy didn’t know much about plumbing and that’s his job!)?
or
Can that hole be closed and fixed by just dealing with the hole itself???
It’s not a huge hole really.

Why Does My Gas Water Heater Leak From Drain Plug?

My water heater is 10 yrs. old ,it makes noise while heating, rumbling & pinging. I just discovered “dripping” from the drain plug, ( water drips cold ) there is a large amount of water “pooled” on floor base of water heater.

I hope someone can help me as I’ve been battling a leak situation for a couple months now. My water bill has sky rocketed. My normal monthly bill is around 4000 gallons and now it ranges between 17000 and 21000 a month. I’ve gone around and turned all toilets off, ice makers, etc and still had the meter moving. There are times when I shut the water off to the house and the meter still moves which made me think the leak had to be between the meter and the house, however there are times when the meter doesn’t move with the water to the house shut off or left on. I don’t see how an outside look could be intermittent, yet I don’t see how it could be an indoor leak if it doesn’t stop when I shut off the water at the house. I’m baffled as to where 20000 gallons of water could be going. I’ve even seen it use up to 7000 gallons if 4 days! I’ve ruled out every thing in my house.
I even had a plumber come out and after checking everything out that I had already done, he said the leak must be in the floors or walls somewhere because the meter wasn’t moving at the time he was there after we shut the supply off at the house. However it continues to move sometimes and not others regardless of whether or not the valve to the house is on or off. He also checked the water heater and PSI and all was fine.
Have you ever encountered anything like this? There is no pattern or logic to it as far as I can see. I’ve completely run out of options and see no wet walls or floors.
Any advice?
Thank you

Plumbing Drainage Leak At Lead Pipe Joint.?

My bathroom basin drains through the trap, then into a pipe in the wall, and then into a lead 1-1/2″ pipe that connects to the soil line. At that joint, where the lead meets cast iron, is where the leak exists. Should I simply apply heat to the bulbous fitting at that joint until the leak seals itself or is it more complicated than that ?

Ok, I know basic plumbing techniques. however, I tried to heat the pipes and then put the soldering on it, but it seems like the soldering is not melting on the pipes, do I need flux? What is flux by the way? Now what I did was cut the bad piece away and I am going to home depot tomorrow to get a new joint piece. I want to do it the right way but I am a step away from buying a flexible tube and using 2 pipe clamps! I heated the original pipe to the right temp… I waited for the flame to go green, then I rubbed the soldering on it but it did not melt. What the hell am I doing wrong!!! Losing my mind! Any help?

Plumbing Leak & Precautions.?

When i bought this house 18mons ago, it was 4 yrs old. 3 months ago i noticed small water puddle in me laundry room coming from beneath the floor between the vinyl & ceramic floor joint. Plumber came broke the wall fixed a faulty joint in plumbing which was causing slab/pinhole leak. Since the leak was small and going on for some time, i now notice the adjacent hardwood floor a little bit affected by it (few mm gaps btw wood). I also recently noticed small ants in the same area i think they have found a tunnel under the wood to come and go. Pest control said its small ants that dont harm the wood and they sprayed so it will go away soon. I am concerned whatelse can happen e.g mold. Also can there be more leaks that i dont know of or was it just one that caused the minor wood floor damage. How large area of an area can be affected by just one slab leak? What are the precautionary measures i should take now to prevent further costly repairs, mold termites. We are on a budget. Thank you.
