We want to remodel our basement. The ceiling (floor joists of first floor) are TJI joists and we have some 1/2″ copper plumbing that hangs below the bottom of the joists. I was wondering if I could drill 1″ holes through the joists to move the pipes through the joists, rather than below them, so that I can hang drywall to the underside of the joists for the basement ceiling. If so, should the holes be drilled near the top, middle or bottom of the joists?

im writing this question on behalf of my dad. as the company he works for is closing, he is being made redundant. We have recently had a flood, and he was amazed by how much plumbers charge, especially when they’re called out late at night! so this is the direction he wants to go in.
Hes always helping round the house doing jobs that need doing. he already knows HOW to do electrics and plumbing, but to make a trade of it,the knows he needs to do a course.
how much roughly is this course going to cost? we live in hertfordshire, so does anyone know which colleges do these courses and how long will it take to complete it, for someone who is a very willing and keen learner?
also… what would you say is the best job to start off with? plumbing or electrics? is it best to start of doing this kind of job for a company or privately?
ANY OTHER TIPS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED
btw… hes 46 years old? i dont know if that effects anything?

The ramp is so steep and their plumbing is right in the way making it very hard to get in or out of the restaurant every time I have said something to them they say they are working on it. It has been three yrs now from the first time I have asked them about the entrence now last night I went there and was told the same thing they are working on it.
So I live in Centeral Coast Calif.
Is there anyone that knows of a good Lawyer for Americans with Disability Acts. I really need to speak to a good Lawyer it seems that the only way people will do something is if they are being sued.
I tried to do it the nice way first.
Please anyone with any info.

I live in a raised ranch and one of my family members turned the half into a full bath. The studs and and the plumbing (concrete floor) is finished for this. Do I need a certificate of occupancy once I try and sell this house? If you know the answer please tell me why I need one.
Thanks!

I say yes.,My friend, who is an obsessive compulsive collector of junk says only if he is notified and is present. He wants to sue. I say just spend the money on clean up instead of a lawyer. My friend has 5 acres of junk of every kind. his land is zoned farm, It abuts residential land with well kept homes. The local zoning reg says the official has the “authority”.My friend says yes but the owner (him) must have been present.his town is small rual town in hartford county connecticut. The building inspector is also the zoning enforcement official.

Hi, I’m 17 years old and recently dropped out of college due to realising I have no interest in my course or the careers I could get out of it.
What I really would like to get into now, after a lot of thought, is plumbing. I’m not really sure how to go about getting myself an apprenticeship though and was wondering if any of you could help me out.
I have a friend who does a plumbing apprenticeship and earns £150~ a week and does 4 days work, 1 day college. I would like something similar to this. Unfortunately the company he is at is no longer looking for new apprentices :/

There is a cute little sturdy cinder block house for sale (in a super great neighborhood) for a mere $29,000. I know there MUSt be “something” wrong with it. But what?! We’ve looked all around, inside and outside. It looks great, except for the terrible awful decorating scheme (turquoise and yellow kitchen), big sky blue living room, one pink bedroom, and another room (no door) that looks like a man’s smoking room, completely mismatched from the 1950s theme with a woody cabin feel to it. The realtor is calling this a second bedroom! ANYWay, I can see that a tree limb has actually fallen and ripped out the electric supply (at one time) it is currently held together by black electrical tape! YIKES! There is a brand new hot water heater (not completely hooked up yet? or is it?), a forced air heater that was serviced in ‘05 (but does it work?), new plastic pipes under the sink, (but was it EVER “winterized”???) I do not see tape that indicates it was winterized. No signs or anything.
WHat would it cost to replace ALL the electrical wiring? Do I NEED to do that? Who I call? How much does this cost? Can grandpa do it? and have it approved by a technician?
How about the plumbing? How much does it cost to replace the plumbing? maxium? and minimum costs??? Please , please give me some numbers that I can work with! I do NOT know what to do!
This is a very cute house! It says it is 1400 sq ft, but I think that includes the big oversized attached one and a hlf car garage area. the living room is pretty decently “big”, tiny bathroom, tiny kitchen, tiny dining area/hallway, NO laundry room! WHY did they have the laundry next to the kitchen, by the door? How much does it cost to move that to the garage? where it BELONGS? How much does it cost to pipe heat into the garage (so the laundry water pipes do not freeze)? Could I put up a silly thin dry wall? make a little corner room/hallway in my garage? Can I turn the garage into a real bedroom? The den (you can not see the floor plan…) I sorta wish to keep extra room as a den/computer/TV/rec room. I’d like a bedroom for sleeping. I’d like the living room for visiting with visitors, not when… people walk in and the attention is draw n to that big black box, that awful silly stupid TV. what happened to the OLD days? of communication? and FAMILY? We have not turned the TV on in almost a year. (We take the summers off, we do watch some tv in the fall and winter.)
ANyway, can you please help me?
May I offer a mere $9,000? I have $10,000 more to fix the place up. I need hard flooring (vinyl? or some super nice plank wooden floors? ceramic tile? stone?) It has nasty very used old shag carpet currently. I had some trouble getting a “conventional” loan? I did get a regular ordinary loan that requires FHA approval up to $65,000 , but I’m not sure we are comfortable with that price, payments and jobs for the next 30 yrs? (what if I am fired? or laid off? I can’t make the payments?)
What am I getting myself into? Is this house a disaster? It’s looks super nice and perfect outside and inside. The problems are invisible. (Plumbing? elect?) The realtor said “it has problems. It is priced accordingly.” He would not give further details. He (good adivce, yes) says to have it inspected. “I am not a contractor”he says. He even wanted to meet with me again. “why?” I asked. he smoothly said “to make an offer..” Which I am not about to do, until I know what kind of repairs are required!
PS. slab, no basement! (75% of all basements that I have seen have moisture or standing water in them! UGH), City sewer, city water. ugh. I hate the CITY. but it gives the illusion of country living anyway. lots of trees and such.
