We are replacing all the water lines in the house with pex. I just don’t know how to hook it to the PVC.

Our hot water heating is leaking where the two copper pipes go into it on the top. What is wrong and how do we fix it??

ork, plumbing was a mess. He didnot have it inspected before he bought it. But aren’t the seller obligated to disclose any thing like this? Also he was not informed that the house had not been lived in for six years.

We have back to back kitchen sinks, share a common Y pipe before leading to the apt building’s main pipe. When she uses disposer, water (and her dinner) backflows into my sink. If I use a “test plug” (with the twist top to create a tight seal) will that stop it from backing into my sink? I believe all the clogs are on her side, as i don’t put my dinner down the drain like she does. Will water pressure cause my pipes to burst? In addition to her, we also have 3 floors above us who share the main pipe, but the neighbor and I are the only ones on the Y pipe before it goes to the main pipe.

I feel so dumb. I turned off both the cold & hot water to see if it would shut the water off outside (didn’t). But when I turned it back on, no water comes out of the tap on the hot side (kitchen & bathroom!). I keep fiddling with both, along with the valve - it comes on, but doesn’t stay on. Help!

I’m currently 40 years old and am considering going to a trade school for heating and air conditioning. While I think I’d be well suited for this trade, having basic electronic troubleshooting and some mechanical skills, my main concern is age.
I am in good shape but wonder just what niches in this field are more labor demanding and might be a bad choice for older workers. I’m not afraid of hard work but am thinking years down the road.
If I could be sure there are areas of the field that would be more suited to older techs it would greatly help my decision. That way I could migrate to a specific area later on if need be. For instance, commercial versus residential, store cooler work, A/C versus heat, or any other speciality area that I might not be aware of. Even input on geographic location in America would be of help.
Stories of older people going into another trade like the ones listed above as positive examples would also be of help to encourage me. Thanks.

I don’t actually know of any specific schools to learn plumbing, but the local county vocational-technical school may have one. Some of those trades such as plumbing or welding have unions that will train a person as an apprentice though it may be pretty competitive to get accepted as an apprentice. It may take a lot longer than a typical year program or so, but it can be well worth it to be able to get the benefits of a union worker. Just a thought, but most vo-tech schools do seem to have programs to learn plumbing. Good luck!

What Is The Best Skilled Trade To Get Into?

HVAC, Electrician, Plumbing, Carpentry, Welding, or something else?
Which is the best and why?

I’ve been renting a basement suite for about 9 months now. Since the start, whenever the clothes washer drains water (three times a cycle) the kitchen sink backs up, almost to the top. The landlord knows about this, had someone inspect, but they have to bust up the flooring down here to fix the pipes, so she’s waiting until we leave. Just the other day it finally flooded, twice in one load (because I bailed water the third time into a large roughneck container). Now the water seems to be rising higher and draining slower… I want out of this place! It’s not fair that I should have to babysit the kitchen sink, making sure it doesn’t overflow. What if we weren’t home and the people upstairs did laundry!? Is there anything that I can do to get myself out while keeping my money (damage deposit and portion of rent)?!??! Help!

after 35 years i have concluded that it is all about the owners and all my idealism was and youth was misspent at relatively low pay. i look at the talking heads on tv “news” and become enraged. if only i had learned a good trade like plumbing or electrical work, i think i would be much happier and better off. no, i am sure i would be better off. higher education is a waste for the vast majority. so pizzed.
