I live in NYC and work on a television show that has a long summer hiatus. I decided I want to move back into the woods for the summer (I’m from MI) and have chosen the Idaho/Montana/Wyoming region for its abundance of natural forest and parks. I want to rent a rustic (preferred plumbing and electricty) cabin/home for the months of June and July but am having trouble locating month to month options. Any ideas on places I could check out?

If you live in New York State, and you buy a piece of land for a cabin, do you have to have a professional install the electrical and the plumbing, or can they simply sign off on your work and make the final connections? If the latter, how much does this usually cost? One more! Assuming the land perks, what do septic systems and wells usually run for in NY State, or hooking up to county if it’s available?

I was thinking of trying to build a log cabin the old-fashioned way, by hand. But then I was wondering if in the future electricity and plumbing could be added, or would this be too difficult once it is already built? Thanks for any information!
