Transform Your Basement Into A Home Theater

Nowadays, going to the movies is simply too expensive. However, it’s just not the same watching them in your living room. Why not set up a home theater? It may sound like an expensive task, but it doesn’t have to be. Even a cluttered basement can be converted in to a home movie theater.

First thing you’re going to have to do is clear some room. Pack any loose items up in boxes and move them out. If you have nowhere to else to put these the boxes, then just stack them against the wall. You can always drape something over them if they remain an eyesore.

There is no right or wrong way to decorate a room, but there are common tricks for dressing up a theater. The first is to place drapes or sheets on as much of the wall-space as possible. This not only adds to the intimacy, but helps dampen any echo. When selecting furniture, go for comfort, not appearance, since the lights will always be low. Also, it’s easy to find a cheap used couch if you don’t care what it looks like.

Now to turn this room into a real theater. The most affordable option for replicating the experience are high definition flat screens. The HDTV Plasma Samsung devices can be as large as 50 inches which is more than enough. Although not mandatory, the addition of a stereo system for the audio would be preferred for a clearer sound.

Many basements tend to get quite chilly, especially in the dead of winter. Instead renovating your entire heating system, simply buy a portable warming device. The Delonghi space heater is ideal for this set-up. Just place it in the corner and it will quietly keep your theater cozy.

So far, you’ve got a sweet set up, but to really add that final touch, place a food supply in the room with you. You don’t want to ruin the atmosphere you’ve created by constantly leaving for the kitchen. Install a mini-fridge in the corner and, if you want, get a small cooking device, for some warm snacks. The Kitchenaid oven is perfect for quick toasty meals.

If you follow these steps, you’ll be surprised how you quickly you’ve turned that dingy waste of space you once called a basement into your new favorite room. With such a simple set-up, a personal theater can be in every home.

A 1/2″ pvc AC condensate drain slopes down and empties down into an upright 2″ pvc pipe (used for washer drainage).

Is It Dumb To Own A House Without A Basement?

We are looking for a new house, to get out of this renting thing, and are debating wheather it would be dumb to get one with no basement. Someone told us its better to have a basement, and also would be better to have a basement cause if you ever have to repair plumbing pipes or whatever its cheaper. Any thoughts on this from anyone to wheather a basement is that big a deal or not…….cause we are finding lots of nice houses but they have no basement……Thanks for your thoughts lol…………

how much would it cost these days to build a cement block basement (including electric and plumbing, door, a few windows and screens, sand and stone around it, plastic around and under it, etc.)

I know regulations probably vary from state to state. I have an unfinished basement (new build) with plumbing. I am considering constructing a commercial kitchen for small scale food biz.

Adding Bathroom To Basement?

We are putting a rec. room in our basement and would like to add a bath with just a toilet and sink. We don’t want to dig into the ground for the toilet and heard that there is a type of toilet that doesn’t require that. I guess it just goes right into existing plumbing. Has anyone ever heard of this? What is it called?
Thanks!
