I would like to do it myself, but I have no experience. I would like to turn one of our back bedrooms into a master bedroom by adding a few feet to it and adding a bathroom and closet next to the bathroom. The new bathroom will be right next to our old bathroom. Our house has a crawl space underneat so that might make it a bit easier.
I am more than willing to take a few years to learn absolutely everything I need to know about doing this myself. I won’t be starting this project until I know I can do it right.
I might hire out the plumbing and electric but I am not sure yet.
I have tried to find help on the internet about where to begin learning all of this but I only run into contracter referral sites and nothing that pertains to me, really.
Can anyone recommend a website or series of books that will REALLY get me started? Are there any special considerations I might be missing, other than building permits?
I would greatly appreciate any imput; thank you in advance

We are putting a rec. room in our basement and would like to add a bath with just a toilet and sink. We don’t want to dig into the ground for the toilet and heard that there is a type of toilet that doesn’t require that. I guess it just goes right into existing plumbing. Has anyone ever heard of this? What is it called?
Thanks!

I am buying a house with a finished attic. Wiring, drywall, insulation, etc. already up there. I would ideally like to add a 3/4 bath. Do not have rough in for plumbing there, so that would have to be added. Any idea on how much (approx) this will cost me to add a bath up there, given approx 10-15 feet to tap into bathroom on the floor below it? I am in the mid-atlantic region.
Thanks

I am considering adding an extra room onto the back of my house. The room would be roughly 12 x 12 feet with a couple of windows. It would need electrical wiring, but not plumbing. I would like to have it extend off the master bedroom into the backyard (I plan to use it as an office). The house was built in the late 90s and is wood frame with stucco exterior and a spanish tile roof.
Has anybody in the Phoenix area ever done an extension to their home of this sort? Approximately how much would such an additional room cost and how long would it take to do?

I usually charge by the hour when I do a job. I haven’t much of an idea of how much time it will take me to complete. The room will be 15 feet by 20 feet (approx) of course there is the removal of the siding and outside walls, the wiring, no plumbing, etc.I had thought of just throwing out a figure and seeing her reaction, but maybe it would be too low and I would be screwed. Serious replies only! Suggestions are appreciated.

Our daughter’s room has two closets, one normal size and one long walk in closet. The closet has the access to our bathroom plumbing and there are two plug ins already in there. We are thinking of using that closet to make a half bath, so we wouldn’t actually have to build on to the house.

I want to convert my detached garage into a 2 season multi purpose room/winter garage. Contractors says that if I want to add water and waste lines that I have to have frost footings, he claims to tear down and rebuild would be cheaper. The structure is built super solid but sits on a slab only.

We want to add a guest bathroom in a spare bedroom upstairs. We have plenty of room in the bedroom, but there is currently no plumbing or sewer lines in the area. How complicated is it to add this, is it even possible and is it really expensive? The other possibility, although I would prefer the first, is that there is a laundry room right next to this bedroom that I guess could be made into a bathroom? Any suggestions, ideas?
