What Is A Good Substitute For A Fish Water Heater?
I want one for my betta fish. But I don’t have one yet. So what can make their water warmer at about 75 degrees while I wait for enough money to buy one?

Depending on what size tank you have. I have seen a 7.5w heater at petco, petsmart and bigsalonline.com for around 10-15 dollars. I am not sure what the shipping would be. They are for 2-5 gallon tanks. You can place the fish in the warmest room in the house. Sometimes the room temperatures are a little different in different rooms. Good luck. I am sure it has a better home than in the small bowl that it was in at the store. My betta has been fine for several months without a heater. I plan on getting one before winter.
Water Heaters are very efficient because they heat the water without causing much algae.
Even though it does cause algae to happen, sunlight through the aquarium glass usually can heat your water even to that temperature. But then you would have to be very careful with your tank set up and even then your temp will vary with the seasons. (Crazy Earth keeps rotating and such.)
So, using this method, depending on where you live, your tropical fish may still die in the winter months.
If your fish do survive the winter and you do not remember reposition your tank to compensate for the winter/summer heat variance, you could easily find fish soup all of a sudden one day when you come home from work, as the sun shows little mercy with the heat it can bring.
You could turn up the heat at your place to around 80 degrees, and the water in your tank should eventually warm up to match, but can you imagine what your gas bill would look like? Not to mention your “carbon footprint”.
Any other suggestions that come to mind would honestly be just as expensive as a water heater you are substituting for, so just get the right tool for the right job. It saves a lot of headache in the long run.
Nothing. Just save up the money and buy a heater.

LOL: fish man “you are using answers so you are obviously over 13″
I was under 13 when I started using Yahoo!Answers.
If you have it in the proper 5 gallon filtered tank that it needs then it’s difficult. If you have it in a small bowl or tank then sit it on top of your refrigerator.

there is no SAFE way
just buy a heater
dont buy fish on impulse without having a proper setup
