Why Is My Gas Water Heater Is Making Continous Cracking Sound?
this been going on for at least a month now, but before the only time it make this sound is when we use the hot water .

That is normally a sign of excess buildup of mineral deposits in the bottom of the tank. You may be able to make the tank last longer by draining and flushing it. For more info including a maintenance guide, check out the water heater page at my source.
Maybe it’s time for a new one. I think most water heaters make cracking noises as they age.
sediment in the bottom….. needs to be drained
Its a build up of calcium and rust. This buildup settles to the bottom and takes longer to heat up the water. I would keep an eye on it for leaks. I’m speaking from experience.
