You will have to by a TSA or FAA approved pistol case. You will have have to tell security that you have a locked (LOCKED) firearm and they will probably inspect it and seal it. NO AMMO ALLOWED. Buy ammo when you get home. The last thing is contact or look up the word for word rules and regulations on the airlines and/or airport you are flying out of and read them carefully. You don’t want to miss something small and cause a big issue.
My friend traveled out of Chicago Midway to Idaho and back with no issue. The Chicago people were a little tight but he did everything they asked and he read and asked ahead.
bring it in a case to the airport (ammo in separate box or not at all) and take it to the ticket counter and declare it a firearm. They will take it from there. You will have to claim it personally at the desk at the destination.
