What Is The Plumbing Hole Called On The Outside Of My House?
I’m trying to figure out what this thing is called on the outside of my house. It’s a hole that’s located on the exterior wall directly below the upstairs master bathroom. It’s about 2-3 inches in diameter with a wing nut in the middle. My plumber has used it before to snake it when trying to clear a big problem with our drain. I’m just curious what this thing is called. The cover has rusted and no longer tightens, so when we flush a toilet, water rushes out. I want to see if I can replace the cover myself and avoid the plumber’s fee.

If it has a wing nut in the middle, it is a test plug, not a clean-out. Here is a picture of it: http://plumbing.hardwarestore.com/52-300…
Now, having said that, the other guy is correct in saying clean-out cap, because that is what you are supposed to have on your clean-out. A cap instead of a plug. Yes, you can replace it yourself. They cost approx, $1.50 at Lowes.
it’s called a “clean out” for obvious reasons. it’s a great place to run a snake as opposed to pulling a toilet etc…
and yes, you need to fix that for many reasons. it should be sealed! get on it asap! that’s not just water running out of there and it’s getting air in your lines. HURRY!
ok, i was kidding about air in the lines. the point is, it needs to be capped.
IT`s called a clean- out. You may only need a new cap? Check threads on cap and threads in pipe. If you can`t get it to go back in place, both may need replaced. Do not drain any water from house if you wish to avoid a smell or mess outside, stick a rag in pipe if you do not want to attract insects.
To any Plumber, it is called a rodding eye, for obvious purposes.
It’s a septic clean out cover.
They come in different sizes.
Take the old one with you when you pick up the new one.
