My pilot light won’t stay lit. The water heater is not that old, maybe eight years at most.

It’s easy to replace, an old thermocouple, just take out the old one, unscrew it from the thermostat and take it out of the holder inside where the pilot light is it may clip on or have another way to keep it in place, check it out and then. when you get it out take it to the hardware department, where you get your parts, Aces, Lowes stores like that or a wholesaler that sells hot water heaters in your town. If I can do it anyone can.
Yes, the thermocouple in most gas water heaters can be replaced. The other answers include good suggestions — find the manufacturer and check their website for parts, or contact an appliance or hardware store which carries that manufacturer’s products.
An additional possibility is to make sure the thermocouple is properly situated in the flame. Normally pilots are lit with a fireplace match or pizo-electric starter. Someone may have used something else, such as a bar-b-que lighter and knocked the thermocouple out of the way. More details about when this happened, and any service before this happened, could also be helpful.
Yes. It is worth a try. Check the paperwork, if you still have it, to find out where to find it. Or just take the name and model # to an appliance store that has a parts dept.
Not sure what pedestrian was talking about… There is no meaningful wiring in a gas water heater. Mine stays lit when the power is off
A thermocouple is not difficult to replace. Another thing to check is the pilot itself. If the flame is weak, it won’t heat the thermocouple enough. The pilot has a small orifice that can get clogged. You can try gently tapping on it with a screwdriver to see if that improves the flame.
I don’t think the probe is bad but there are so many causes that it is difficult to say, try replacing it and then check the wiring (you’ll find the part at your manufacturer web site)
If your question is either can be replace or not…….! i will say YES ! In this world nothing is impossible if you have money. Not only thermocouple but new water heater also you can get it.
