it drove home fine the guy just told us it would need an oil change and new spark plugs/ wires and we would be good to go. The inspection was done last month so we felt good about it. Well after my husband OVERFILLED the oil by a quart or so it started smoking (we were arguing if it was white or blue) no sweet smell, a fuel smell. He corrected his mistake ( I had driven it maybe 8 miles no higher than 45 mph) It goes away after the car warms up and is driven about a 1.5. Then he checks the radiator and it appeared to be low or just about empty, so he added water to the brim. The next morning I drove the car, t smoked again like normal and then went away. Well I decided to try the AC, since he converted and charged, then the temp gauge is going up, so I turn the AC off and drive the 1/4 mile home, it never went all the way to hot and when I parked it went back to norml.but when I got out of the car I noticed water from the st. to the driveway. For starters, I would put more than just water in an empty radiator. Water boils and overflows when it gets hot, so the overflow is no surprise.
If you don’t know how to maintain it, take it to someone who does, and prepare to spend hundreds. At least you will have peace of minde for your safety.

I doubt over filling the engine oil caused any serious damage what so ever.
I do have some concerns about a possible head gasket leaking. If you have a blown head gasket, the engine coolant will over pressurize and be forced into the coolant reservoir and possibly overflow it.
With air in the cooling system there is not a sufficient amount of coolant in the system to dissipate the heat created while the engine is running.
After the engine has cooled down, top off the radiator and fill the reservoir half way.
Now, start it up and watch for bubbles in the reservoir.
A few bubbles at first is normal. However, if it continues to bubble after 30 seconds or so, you have a blown head gasket or a cracked head.
Seems like your Question/Statement rambles too much to form a diagnostic type evaluation and try to help you…..seek
help at your local repair shop and try to get an idea of what you are dealing with….. Fuel smoke normaly will be dark, oil smoke will be blueish tint and coolant smoke tends to be white and will leave a residue on your hand if you hold your hand sorta close to the tail pipe and will have a sicky/sweet taste…..good luck
The peoblem is not because your husband overfilled the engine with oil. one time, I overfilled my car by 4qts and drove it for 300 mile and didnt have all of these problems!
YOU BOUGHT A PIECE OF CRAP , THE HEAD GASKET COULD PUT OIL ON THE ANTI FREEZE OR ANTIFREEZE IN YOUR OIL , IT MAY JUST BE OVERHEATING , TRY CHANGING THE THERMOSTAT . NEXT TIME BUY YOUR CAR FORM SOMEONE YOU CAN HOLD RESPONSIBLE , LIKE A GOOD CAR LOT
Don’t fool around. Bring it in to a dealer and get an estimate for what needs fixing. However, you’ll then pay for all the maintenance the original owners didn’t pay for. That’s what you signed up for when you buy a used car.
“Change the Oil Filter Now!” will bring the oil back to the correct level (Filter only). It’s running rich, wrong fuel/air mix Shop! When you changed the oil, was there water in the crank case?May be safe to check and change to hoses. Fans are not working right,one for the Eng. and one for the A/C to assist in cooling the radiator. Also sounds like the thermostat may be bad.
ALWAYS have a car (privet party) checked by a good mechanic you trust before you buy it. Might be a good car but it needs a lot of work!
