Rusty Water Coming Out Of Water Pipes. How Do I Fix It?
I have an 1859 townhouse with 8 units in it. It is 5 stories high. The plumbing was redone in the 1930’s. I replaced the water heater 2 years ago. There has never been a rust problem before. Now on the top floor in one unit all the water in the kitchen and baths is really rusty. A plumber doesn’t know how to fix the problem. What can be done?

Find a different plumber!
Replace the pipes with copper. Your plumber doesn’t know that or that’s not what you wanted to hear??? There are other options like PEX or CPVC that might save a little bit of money.
In your life how have you ever really fixed anything that was rusted out? There is no cure for rusty pipes. Even rust on a car has to be cut out and removed. There is no magic solution you can pour in your pipes to stop the rust. Even if there was I doubt it would be safe to drink the water after that.
