How To I Get To The Diverter On My Shower. I’m Sure It Probably Needs Replaced But How Do I Get To It?
I have a knob that turns the shower on (between the hot and cold knobs) Do I unscrew the knob or do i have to go to the back intrance of the plumbing. Sorry Im just a girl that knows nothing about plumbing

remove screw that holds handle, with a screwdriver, tap one side of handle and pull on other side, this is tedious, but will keep you from breaking handle, keep tapping till handle has some movement, also tap a little on one side and a little on the other till loose enough to come off.Next remove trim behind handle by unscrewing. you will see hex sides of diverter stem. If accessable with adjustable wrench, turn counterclockwise to remove, if not, you will need a socket to remove, The most common size is 29/32- 31/32 which you can get at homedepot on one socket. remove stem, take to hardware store or homedepot and get replacement stem, and install new one.note; water to house doesn’t need to be off
You may only need to replace the washer or cartridge in the valve. If so, turn off the water main, remove the handle, then the trim plate. You should then be able to use a wrench to remove the inner part of the valve. Remove and replace the washer (or the cartridge, depending on the type of valve it is), then re-assemble.
If the entire valve does need to be replaced then yes, you will need to work on it from the “back enterance”.
